Paul Lanzillotta has spent the last 25 years working on electrical, control and instrumentation requirements for numerous water and wastewater related projects. His experience encompasses electrical, mechanical, measurement and control engineering functions from conceptual design through startup and commissioning. He began his career as a team member of a major power plant project in the electrical engineering department of a large consulting firm. While the main focus of the group was the power distribution systems and equipment, Paul was exposed to the I&C department and became familiar with the more detailed circuitry of control wiring diagrams and system interfaces.

After he moved on to join the engineering department of a New York area water utility, it soon became apparent that as the only electrical engineer on staff, Paul would be responsible for the controls, instrumentation and telemetry design as well as the power system on plant upgrades and new construction projects. He learned about PLCs and integrated controls and was soon convincing his department manager of the benefits of new technology.

This aspect of engineering was so interesting that after a few years Paul seized the opportunity to join a local controls engineering firm that specialized in water supply and treatment. Through hands-on work via assigned projects, he had the chance to expand his knowledgebase of controls, instrumentation and communication design. With experience, project assignments increased in size and responsibility, eventually encompassing full SCADA projects.

Following a change in ownership and major reorganization at his company, Paul decided to work independently and began offering his services to local machine builders, manufacturers, contractors and process industries. In addition to water and wastewater, Paul was able to gain experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, environmental remediation as well as petroleum transportation and storage processes. He is currently managing design, construction and commissioning of several water and wastewater facility rehabilitation, upgrade and SCADA projects. He is active with the ISA Long Island Section and has served on several committees and as section President. He had the privilege of working with Joe Provenzano to plan and conduct the first WWID symposiums beginning in 2003. Paul has served on a career/curriculum advisory board of his local school district, is active with professional engineering societies to promote engineering education and careers, and mentors high school and college students. He is a graduate of New York Institute of Technology and is a Registered Professional Engineer in New York.
